There are a lot of people searching for GED Online. Some are looking to take the GED test online; others are looking for an online GED practice test or online GED preparation classes. Depending on your interest, there may be good or bad news. I try to provide full and accurate details about online GED options below.
GED Test Online
I have some disappointing news for you. There is not an online GED test or online GED exam. GED exams are always done in person at a certified GED testing center. There are links to GED Testing Locations by State on my home page.
Why no Online GED Testing? There could be several reasons, but one is the need to identify the test taker as the individual seeking the GED. With an online GED exam, how can the Department of Education prove who the test taker really is?
If you must go the online route for the actual exam, consider earning an online high school diploma rather than a GED. There are hundreds of Online High Schools around the country; some are free of charge depending on your school district and age. Be sure to check the school’s accreditation before enrolling to ensure your diploma will be recognized by secondary education institutions and employers.
GED Practice Test Online
I have some great news for you. There are a great many online GED practice test offerings. Some are full GED practice tests online; others are more specific to seperate sections of the GED exam.
Two free GED practice exam services I would endorse are from The American Council of Education (ACE) and from Stech Vaughn. ACE is a nearly 100 year old council representing chancellors and presidents from hundreds of institutions of higher education. They are highly trustworthy and a great resource. Stech Vaughn is a major developer of K-12 Education material. They have a free online GED practice test in both English and Spanish.
These recommendations are just two of many options. Please let me know about online GED practice tests you use and I will add them to this list.
GED Preparation Class Online
There are a lot of sites and companies advertising online GED prep classes. Unfortunately it is difficult to gauge all of them myself. One that is commonly endorsed is produced by the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) through the University of Pennsylvania. They require a user to create a login to access their materials, but that login comes at no cost.
I would be happy to endorse additional GED preparation courses if any visitor would send me a private email giving some details on their experiences.
